Beautiful, painful, beguiling: 8 vignettes that excoriate the veneer of bland expectation. Anna Kurnokova is the impressive debut release from Italy's Dolphin X, a.k.a. film maker Paolo Ippolito. With a focus on experimental rhythmics, vying with noise and ambiences, these 8 tracks crackle with the hiss and whine of lo-fi machines pushed beyond limit. While reminiscent of Kashgar's album Kashgar Lover on Acre, there are also nods to later Autechre, rhythmic noize and the industrial experimentalism of Christoph Merk's Kollaps label.
