about

Post-dubstep? Experimental bass music? We’re not entirely sure how to categorise this beguiling EP from Dublin’s Human Stain. Originally composed as a soundtrack to a multimedia live art installation by David Magee, the Pain EP displays a mature diversity: across these seven tracks Human Stain moves from the elegiac ambience of Circles and Guilt - and the melding of arghul flute and ethnic drums in Pain (Part I) - to the rhythmic technoid industrialism of Pain (Part II). Or of Hedonic, scored to the terse vocals of King David. A broad, rich palette of sounds, this work takes the listener on a narrative journey through eclectic soundscapes to emulate the physical and mental experiences of chronic pain.
