Dolphin X, aka Italy's Paolo Ippolito, presents his second album for Acre Recordings, 'The Best Of'. Musician and film maker Ippolito is a prolific artist with more aliases than Acre has had releases and works across multiple genre, including but not limited to free jazz, glitch hop, death/black metal, noise, psychedelia and, of course, IDM. The Best Of is a cross section of his recent electronica - all produced on hardware - and an insight into a complex and diverse creativity. Guilelessly moving from the beautiful IDM of Galaxy Sonatine to the ae-esque repetitive gaming experimentalism of Akira, via the glitched out bliss of Smelling A Flower (a remix of the track from his previous Acre release) to more the dancefloor friendly techno and electro stompers of Omega and Sodomised Paul... While referencing various styles, artists and genre, taking their influences and mangling them delightfully, Dolphin X manages to sound like no one else. A rare thing.
