Jacob Birge is a musician & fashion designer based in the Scottish capital. His futuristic sci-fi tinged fashion shows – accompanied by his ambient/IDM live set - have been causing a stir in fashion circles with his collections being shown in magazines like Bazaar & Vogue. Birge writes music as he designs: The Fountainhead comprises five tracks designed to musically compliment his fashion work and were composed during a frenzied stint readying a collection. The music here is highly-wrought, intense IDM: at times it is densely detailed and rich; at others sparse, angular and awkward. It creates unusual, haunting and icy spaces and is both clinical and futuristic. There are nods to Autechre and Venetian Snares but Birge’s superlative work is something different again. He is definitely one to watch.
