The Last King of Scotland (Version)

about

Scottish oddball Opine Ko$insky is back on Acre, with a very tasty little three-track package. After last year’s ironic old school hip-hop workout, Seven Inches (plus a couple of great contributions to the Iugeri Sonus series), Ko$insky hits us with genre-bending The Last King of Scotland. The opening number eases us in gently with rolling amen-laced hip-hop beats and his characteristic cut-up vocals, before ramping up the tension with some cheeky gabber kicks and funk bass. Next up is the blinding ‘Version’, ushering us towards dancehall/ragga, with some furious amens, a stomping tekno beat and some delicious D&B style basslines… Plus a great little sampled treat for 80s cinema goers! Last up, Guaranteed Fantastic, takes us in another altogether darker direction. Rude-arsed glitched-to-fuck thundering bass vies for attention with stripped down 80’s ‘hop beats, sinister tannoy vocals and industrial sound effects. Scary sludge, but deeply satisfying. This release is quality, and a very interesting progression from someone who is proving to be a very interesting artist.
